CHICAGO - Chicago's first teachers strike in 25 years could end as union members gather to determine whether the school district's latest offer is acceptable enough to end the walkout.
The strike in the nation's third-largest school district has kept some 350,000 students out of class. The union and district have been hammering out the details on teacher evaluations, pay and job security, among other issues.
It appeared last week the sides were close enough to get students back in class by Monday, but union members decided they needed more time to digest the information. Teachers spent Monday paging through summaries of the tentative agreement.
Tuesday's expected vote on whether to call off the strike. A vote on the actual contract will come later.
